チェコ大使から照ノ富士関へ授与（Czech Ambassador to Japan presents Terunofuji） チェコ大使から大の里へ授与（Czech Ambassador to Japan presents Ohnosato）
2024年一月場所ではモンゴル国 ウランバートル市出身の照ノ富士関に、五月場所では石川県出身で23歳の大の里泰輝が優勝。表彰式では、マルチン・クルチャル駐日チェコ共和国大使から表彰状とモーゼル製クリスタルグラスの友好杯が授与されました。
The January 2024 tournament was won by Terunofuji Seki from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and the May 2024 tournament was won by 23-year-old Daiki Ohnosato from Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. At the awards ceremony, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Japan Marcin Kulcsar presented a certificate of commendation and a friendship cup made of Mosel crystal glas
この「チェコ（スロヴァキア）友好杯」は、大相撲本場所で優勝力士にチェコ大使からチェコガラスの杯を授与する伝統で、昭和45年（1970年）春場所千秋楽から続いています。同年に行われた大阪万博のチェコ政府代表が、大相撲力士への授与を発案したのがきっかけと言われています。第一回目は自身31度目の優勝を飾った昭和の大横綱・大鵬幸喜でした。
